More wiring, more hoses, more of everything

Actually got a good solid 3 hours on her last night, stopped by the wreckers to grab some taillight harnesses so that I could keep the ION factory connector to make them easily removable, that and there was a wire in the harness that wasn't on the GM factory wiring diagrams, so I figured it would be easier to just duplicate the wiring when I had one of them in my hands, also finally got the fuse panel mounted and started the wire loom on the main harness to the passenger compartment. On top of all the wiring I got some more pieces of the valve cover vent/catch can figured out, just waiting on some -10AN braided line so I can finish the valve cover to catch can, but I still need to get the turbo end fitting for the catch can connection and braided line/fittings to complete that. Lastly I started running the intake pressure reference lines for the wastegate, boost controller and boost gauge, but I gotta find a PCV valve with barb fittings so that I can finish that off..........always more problems to solve, that's what makes it so fun :)

Fuse panel mounted to the frame
 Intake pressure reference lines

 Catch can connections
Interior wiring harness and pressure lines
 Sidemarker wiring
 Taillight harness
Taillight wiring with ION light harnesses that still need to be modified for the stock Fiero lights

The church of the wiring monster

After running into a problem with parts supplied and not being able to run more plumbing I decided to start with the spaghetti monster of a wiring harness......actually it might not be as bad as I thought. Last night I was able to add loom to the main harness and several other off shoots including the rear taillights and ECU. Thank goodness that I have GM wiring diagrams and I'm able to track down wire colours and what each wire do. I've still gotta stretch all the wiring for the headlights, MAF sensor, run the main battery lines, plus all the aftermarket gauges/devices and connect a couple large grounds in the engine bay but I should be able to button all that up this weekend. Right now I'm just tie wrapping the harness to the frame but I need to come up with a cleaner way to hang the harness and something that doesn't crush with wire loom.

Started pulling wire

Last night was the beginning of something I was not looking forward to......pulling body harness and lighting wire harnesses.

Actually didn't go as bad as I thought but there is probably going to be a lot of cursing ahead, still many wires need to be shortened or lengthened, I did get a lot done when the harness was stretched out in the basement but there was many things I couldn't do until it was mounted in the car. Tonight or tomorrow night should see the mounting of the fuse panel and the start of major wire installation inside the engine bay and interior. I also need to run the wiring for the aftermarket gauges, plus pressure lines, meth fluid lines, etc, etc......most of the remaining braided lines and fittings should be in today as well making for an interesting couple days.

Not much in this post

Unfortunately I didn't get much done to the Fiero this weekend, I'm awaiting a bunch more hose and fittings that will be in today and I had a few other projects that needed to be looked at as they were being put aside for the Fiero. Although I did get some brackets and plates made up to mount a few different things, mainly the ION coolant overflow tank and the ECM.
There will be a bigger update with more pictures of progress tomorrow.

More parts fitment and mounting

Not much for the blog today, got a couple more parts fitted, had to modify a charge pipe a bit plus also spent the time to clean it up and ready it for painting. Mounted the oil separation tank, figured out the brackets to mount the coolant overflow, computer and EVAP canister, should have all that done this weekend.

Getting things in the right place

Started placing more items in the engine bay, trying to figure out where items want to be and still look good, mainly fuse panel, ECU, coolant overflow tank, oil separation canister, intercooler, intake charge piping. Main thing was to find a good home for the fuse panel can ECU that it wouldn't require re-wiring the entire harness, keep in mind that nothing is bolted in yet, it's just sitting there to get a feeling of the space. Also got my sweet shifter knob installed, complete priorities here.......

Quick update part 2

Just another quick update with pictures, got the intake mounted yesterday with any project there's always issues that come up, nothing huge but it did change how a few of the vacuum lines and a sender unit were mounted. I'm hoping that this weekend I can tackle most of the remaining engine wiring, probably start with interior and lighting wiring and maybe get some coolant flex lines figured out, going to be a busy guy.

Quick update

Going to make this one quick, got some more intake manifold work done to her before the weekend, just about ready to finally bolt this thing on, welded on a IAT2 sensor mount, tapped for the throttlebody, installed some fittings, gave a quick polish and infilled the engraving with some red paint.

The project is changing gears and getting cooler

Got a few hours work done to her last night, finally got the shifter setup all figured out, it isn't perfect and it's not exactly what I wanted but at least it works and seems to work fine, there is still a bit of work to be done to it though. The ghetto fab'd bracket that is bolted in was a last second fix, it'll be coming off and a proper welded bracket will be going in, also need to replace the cable guide in that cable.

I also got more coolant lines run, this time to the turbo, also got a couple wiring/sensor related items cleared up.........Lastly what every project needs, a list of things to be done (not a complete list of everything the car needs, just the engine compartment and what I could think of at the moment) yes written on the body where I can't loose it........chances are when I get the car driving the list and all the marks will be on the body still.

Getting down to some real work.

Busy weekend, first off started by completing the fuel tank and filling lines, EVAP lines, mounting the fuel filter, running the fuel lines. Also while the car was still lifted I decided to install the hard coolant lines, cutting them down to fit the new 88 cradles and dimensions which is going to make the flex lines very long and interesting. Next I started wiring the engine to the engine control harness and computer, still going to have to figure out fuse panel and computer mounting but that won't be difficult. Also did a soft install of the intake manifold, it's gotta come out again, need to drill and tap for wastegate/boost controller, blow off valve, boost gauge, meth pressure switch, PCV system plus mount the IAT2 sensor and lastly tap for the throttlebody.

Thanks to a friend he noticed that the plumbing of my turbo coolant was going to be wrong and was going to dump hot water back into the engine, so with that being said I needed to remove the turbo header and remove the fitting, which was good because I never did like the placement or fitment of that fitting.....now its getting relocated just after it exists the engine. Next I gotta pick up some braided line and run the coolant to the turbo.
Fuel lines run, just gotta tie it up nice when I get the rest of the wiring run.
Meth tank bracket and tank mounted, ready for some braided lines and the pump to be mounted.
Rad fans mounted.

I think Sasha approves of the work
